Sub Plot Description

Created by Captain Zedd Sykes on Mon Jun 10th, 2024 @ 5:41am

On board the Dutchman we have the option of "Sub Plots" that are part of Primary Missions.

For Example, a Primary Mission Will be titled as below:
1.0 - Into the Depths....

Any Sub Plot Missions will be titled as such:
1.1 - SP - Surrounding Darkness

A Primary mission will contain all posts involving the main story arc and will usually
follow anything on board the ship or taking place directly around it IE on a planet it
is orbiting over, any space fighting, etc...

Sub Plot missions will be anything that takes crew away from the Dutchman to another
distant location that does or doesn't directly tie in or support the main mission, or
any other type of Sub plot onboard the Dutchman that doesn't directly tie in or support
the main mission, but is something happening on board none the less. This would also
include and Sub plots that would take a character away from the Dutchman off on their
own performing a completely separate "Sub mission or plot"

Sub plots tie into the main mission and usually will be written\played out by a minimum
of 1 player, up to however many participants. Sub Plot sections like this do two things.
They organize parts of missions as far as posting so when you read through the Sub Plot,
it is catalogued separately as opposed to jumbled in with the main story arc. Secondly
it allows the participants in that section to write at a pace they desire, keeping them
from being forced to wait on other previous timeline posts in the overall mission to be
completed and posted.

Sub Plots are entirely optional, however encouraged. Approach the Commanding Officer
with any ideas for approval.

For Example:

In Deep Space Nine, you had Episodes where folks would leave the station off on a
mission. That didn't mean that life suddenly stood still until they got back, things
went on. So the idea behind the Sub Mission\Plot is to give you a place to write
that "Side story" or "Supporting Story". Now remember, these side missions will
usually tie in with the main mission, but not always, depending on the current goings on.

As a General rule I would ask that any sub plots be a minimum of 5 solid posts, anything
that is going to be a onesy or twosy of posts should remain in the main story\mission
line.

You may be asking now : How do I manage the Time of the posting between the overall
Mission and the Sub Plots?

That's a fairly easy answer. The Sub Plots will follow the same timeline as the Primary
Mission, which starts on MD01 XXXX Hrs. If your Sub mission doesn't start until
MD07 XXXX Hrs of the Primary Mission, then your first post for your Sub plot and
timeline for it will start at MD07 XXXX Hrs, not MD01.
