Weapons and Combat responsibilities fall under the purview of the Combat Chief and their department. They are responsible for the tactical readiness of the ship, its weapons systems, the security of the vessel, and the combat effectiveness of the crew.

This includes:
- Maintaining all weapon systems in a ready and operational state.
- Maintaining ammunition, power supplies, and any materials necessary for the operation of ship weapons and personal armaments.
- Maintaining all armories aboard the ship and ensuring they are properly secured and inventoried.
- Maintaining the general security of the ship and its crew.

Crewmembers in the Combat department are to be kept up to date on all weapons systems aboard the ship they are assigned to, including ship-mounted weapons, personal sidearms, and any specialized armaments carried. They should know the capabilities and limitations of each system so they can advise the command staff accordingly during mission planning and active engagements.

Combat crew are also responsible for the tactical assessment of threats. This includes analyzing potential enemy capabilities, advising on shield and weapons power allocation during combat, and coordinating defensive postures with the command staff.

Ship security falls within the Combat department's responsibility. This includes monitoring access to restricted areas of the ship, managing the brig when in use, screening visitors and boarding personnel, and responding to any internal security threats. On a ship like the Dutchman, operating outside the safety of Federation space, knowing who is on board and why is just as important as what's happening outside the hull.

The Combat department is also responsible for organizing and leading boarding parties when the mission calls for it, as well as preparing the crew to repel boarders if the ship comes under threat of being boarded. This includes training crew in close quarters combat, coordinating with the command staff on boarding strategies, and ensuring that appropriate equipment and personnel are ready to deploy at a moment's notice.

While not expected to be Medical officers, basic field medicine and combat triage skills are expected. Crewmembers should be capable of providing immediate assistance to injured personnel during or following a combat situation until proper medical support can be rendered.

If a weapons system sustains damage beyond immediate repair capability, it is the Combat department's responsibility to liaise with Engineering or Operations to coordinate repairs and restore combat readiness as quickly as possible.

Combat crewmembers are expected to keep current on known threats in the region of operation, working with Science and Intelligence where available to assess risks and prepare the crew accordingly. While not every threat can be anticipated, it is the Combat department's responsibility to ensure the ship and crew are as prepared as possible when danger arises.
