Post Format

To keep a clean appearance, the Dutchman has instituted a standard post format for our players to follow. Each field of a post should be filled out according to standard to cut back on unnecessary and redundant work for the staff on the site.

Authors

The authors of a post should only include people who have participated in a post up to the minimum standard (200 words). Anyone who contributed less than that will not be credited as an author regardless of if their character was present or not.

Title

Titles should be just that, titles. They do not have to be particularly creative, but they should be more than "TBD" or "Samstone/Jackson". Please also pay attention to recent titles of other posts. There will more than likely inevitably be duplicates, but if there was a post titled "Medical Check" posted three days prior, do not name your post the same thing.

Capitalization in titles can be tricky and there are always exceptions, but here are a couple things to keep in mind:
- Capitalize the first and last word of the title regardless of what they are.
- Do capitalize: Nouns (man, bus, book); Adjectives (angry, lovely, small); Verbs (run, eat, sleep); Adverbs (slowly, quickly, quietly); Pronouns (he, she, it); Subordinating conjunctions (as, because, that)
- Do not capitalize (unless first/last word): Articles (a, an, the); Coordinating Conjunctions (and, but, or, for, nor, etc.); Prepositions - fewer than five letters (on, at, to, from, by, etc.)
- When in doubt: "Capitalize all words in titles of publications and documents, except a, an, the, at, by, for, in, of, on, to, up, and, as, but, or, and nor." - The U.S. Government Printing Office Style Manual:

When a post is part of a multi-part post, the title must reflect it. The format for doing so is as follows: "Post Name - Part #" using the digit representation for the part number. (Part 1, Part 4). If a post has 18+ content, that must also be clarified in the title by adding "18+". If it is a multi-part post it should be noted before the part number. (Post Title - 18+ - Part #)

Location

Denoting a location in a field is quite simple. Inserting "Main Sickbay" or "Holodeck 1" is sufficient. This will imply that the action is occurring on the CL Dutchman. However, if the post is taking place off ship, it should be noted as such - "Captain's Quarters, USS Saigon" or "Governmental Palace, Merinda Prime".

If a location changes mid-post (the posts starts in your character's quarters and they move to engineering), it should be denoted in the content of the post preceding the switch in text as follows: [Main Engineering] or [Transporter Room 2, USS Saigon]. In the "Location" text field, if a post takes place in two or more places it can be denoted by either naming the places (Main Engineering; Main Sickbay) or by simply typing in "Various". If the "various" option is used, each area the portion of the post takes in should be denoted as stated above and each section separated by 3 line breaks.

Timeline

The time of a post is simple to denote. The format is "MD# 0000hrs" or "Pre-MD# 0000hrs" (MD08 1234hrs, Pre-MD10 0300hrs). Each post must have an appropriate day/time label. Posts may occur in the past but should still posses a year and preferably a month as well (May 2376). As with a location shift, any significant shift in time should be denoted in the post as follows: [Two Hours Later]. The only posts that may have days/weeks/months skipped are "past" posts. Any "current time" posts should be made into two posts if they happen on separate days. An exception to this is if the post starts on MD09 at 2350 hours and ends on MD10 at 0200 hours. If you are ever in doubt, ask.

Content

Again self explanatory, this is the content of your post. It should be reflective of what is happening on the ship and in the story at the time (for example, if we have no power and the ship has been blown to pieces, your character wouldn't be going to the holodeck to kill some time). Review the OOC Mission timeline and what is happening on specific days to plan out your post accordingly as well as read the other posts pertaining to the mission.

Posts should be written in English, however characters may use other languages in their speech. If it is extensive, a translation should as a rule be provided for other readers.

When a post must be broken down into parts (every 3 pages at Arial 11pt font per part), at the end of the post of each part excluding the conclusion, a simple [To Be Continued] at the bottom of the post.

Posts need to have appropriate content, especially if they are 18+. Any posts that are 18+ should be reviewed by the command staff if there is any question. Please review the 18+ content regulations located here.

Structure of posts should be grammatically correct. Of course there will be occasional errors, but spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and word context should be observed during writing. Posts should be proofread by the author(s) before posting. If a player repeatedly posts content or makes tags that are riddled with errors, they will be put on posting probation where their posts will have to be reviewed by one of the Command Staff before they will be allowed on site.
