A New Life - Part 1
Rhiana ir-Thieurrull t'Fveirrolh was on her way to the meeting point they had agreed upon, wondering whether this was a good idea after all. But after a few months on New Ferenginar, she knew that she could not remain here forever. She would go crazy. Or, more likely, kill someone outside of the fighting ring. And she had no intentions of spending any time in a Ferengi prison.

Walking along the wide hallways of the docking ring, the Romulan's watchful eyes took in everything and constantly assessed threat levels. It was a habit she had picked up in the last couple of years, after she had left the Romulan Star Empire. There had been more than one incident with people who thought they could take advantage of her. All had regretted it.

Scanning the names of the establishments along the way, she finally found her destination: Bar Carambar. Readjusting the strap of the large sea sack she was carrying over her shoulder, she waited just inside the door until her eyes had acclimated to the lower light inside. Some kind of music was playing. A bar tender was busying himself with polishing glasses. Fancy. They must be serving real drinks here. Only a handful of people were here, mostly sitting at solitary tables. It was too early in the day for drinking, but that meant that it would be possible to hold a conversation without having to shout. Good.

Zedd had received the response to his posting earlier that night before. He was still looking to fill senior roles on his ship and went over the extensive record Rhiana had provided. It was quite detailed and something the man appreciated. Instead of moving the Dutchman back closer to orbit of the planet, he opted to take the Reach out for a spin. It had been some time since he piloted a runabout.

Looking out the front viewport, the docking ring quickly came into view as the small craft swung around smoothly, followed by an automated response for docking port he could go to and make his way on to the ring. The ship's automated docking function took place without any issue, an umbilical extending before Zedd powered down and exited out the starboard door.

The familiar air hit his nostrils, making him realize he'd been spoiled on the ship the last number of days. He pulled up the station's directory on his PADD as he walked, scrolling through the docking ring's layout until he found what he was looking for. Bar Carambar. A few minutes on foot, maybe less if he kept pace. He tucked the PADD under his arm and moved.

The ring's wide corridor was busy enough that he had to navigate around a cluster of Ferengi merchants arguing over a cargo manifest, but otherwise the walk was uneventful. The signage for Carambar appeared ahead sooner than he expected, good lighting on the sign, at least, which was more than he could say for the interior when he stepped through the door.

He gave his eyes a moment.

The bar was quiet. A handful of patrons, none of them paying him much attention. The bartender was doing something with glassware that suggested he took his establishment seriously.

He spotted her almost immediately. Partly because she was the only Romulan in the room, and partly because of the way she was standing, back toward the wall, eyes already moving. He recognized the posture. It wasn't paranoia. It was discipline.

Zedd crossed the room at an easy pace, no sudden movements, hands visible. The man was dressed in a fitted charcoal jacket with no insignia and dark trousers, nothing that announced a rank or affiliation to anyone watching. Old habits from dealing with people who'd learned not to trust quickly.

"Rhiana t'Fveirrolh." He stopped a comfortable distance away and offered his hand. "Zedd Sykes. Good to put a face to the record." He glanced briefly toward the bar. "Can I buy you a drink before we get into it?"

Rhiana glanced at the hand, just to make certain nothing was in it, then ignored it and instead inclined her head in greeting. "Captain Sykes. Thank you for being able to meet on such a short notice," she said in a quiet tone, loud enough for him to hear, but not much more. Readjusting the strap of the large and likely heavy bag again, she took a step away from the wall and in direction of the bar. "I will take a Romulan blue tea if they have it. Else, citrus water." Both non-alcoholic beverages. "I doubt that the bar tender will take kindly to patrons who frequent his establishment without consuming anything."

She was also clad in civilian garments: black trousers, a deep dark green shirt and a black jacket, the sleeves of which were an inch shorter than the sleeves of the shirt. Both, shirt and jacket had mandarin collars and the jacket was open. On her feet, she was wearing black ankle-high lace-up boots.

The Captain lowered his hand and returned the nod. He never knew if someone was willing to greet in such a fashion but he did his best to give the option just in case. He did find the choice of a bar interesting if she was going to request something that didn't provide any effects of intoxication, but quickly moved past the thought. Zedd moved over to the bar and ordered two of the requested tea's, he thought it may be interesting to try. Waiting a moment he looked back over at Rhiana and gave a slight grin before the requested drinks were placed in front of him. Picking both of them up, he motioned to a nearby booth. "Why don't we take a load off and we can sit down over there. Neither of us will have our back to the door either." He recognized how she'd placed herself and wanted to ensure both of them felt safe enough.

Rhiana nodded once at the suggestion and walked towards the booth he had indicated. She timed it so that she was just a tad behind Sykes, giving him time to reach the booth first. She waited until he was seated before she slid onto the padded bench herself and placed her bag underneath the table and leaning against the bench between them. "Thank you for the tea, Captain." She sat with her back straight and her hands folded before herself on the table, positioned so that she had a good view of the bar without having to turn her head much. After a last cursory glance over the few other patrons, her black eyes settled onto Sykes. Taking him in and letting him take the lead on the conversation.
