A New Life - Part 3
Zedd shook his head. "As I said before, I've offered the max I can go. The ship and crew can't operate if there's that high of a yield payout for a Chief role.." There wasn't anything more the man could do. There were many other things dependent on what the crew and ship required to maintain functioning and what others brought to the table outside of their assigned roles. "Five and a half percent of what the ship receives for a job, will be paid to you. Any expenses or overhead are taken out from my end, that's the way it works for the whole crew."

"You are misunderstanding me, Captain. I was not asking for higher than the five and a half percent," Rhiana tried to correct the direction the talks might be going. "It was merely a reflection on the fact that you would be paying me higher than other chiefs. Given the additional information you provided, I think five and a half percent is acceptable." Almost as if she was doing him a favour and had a bunch of other potential job offers lined up. Which she did not. She needed this job if she wanted to get away from New Ferenginar.

Zedd shrugged at the statement over the alleged misunderstanding. It was always a mixed bag negotiating with Romulans, but not something that was enough to make him pay much mind to it. He set the PADD onto the table and adjusted the pay rate, everything else was filled in. Sliding it across the table to face the woman "Just needs your thumb print then if you're good with everything discussed. What I stated is all laid out in there. Along with our standard disclaimers."

Rhiana nodded and pulled the PADD closer. Another sip of tea before she began reading the contract. One never knew what kind of surprises it might contain. This one, however, was as promised. No hidden costs, duties or anything else. She appreciated that. Satisfied, she pressed her thumb onto the screen, then handed the PADD back to Sykes.

He looked it over quickly "Welcome to the team. Should we get going? I think T'Vara probably has better tea on the ship. You'd probably appreciate it more. I'm sure it's real, compared to this." He pushed his cup aside and stood up, scanning the room once more.

Rhiana rose as well, picking up her heavy sea sack at the same time. Two or three new patrons had arrived while the two had been negotiating, but noone seemed particularly interested in the Sykes and her. Or they hid it well enough. "Real Romulan tea is a bonus you forgot to mention," the new combat chief commented, though the idea of another Romulan aboard made her adrenaline spike. Not in a good way. But it was too late to withdraw from the contract and she needed the job. She would just have to be prudent in her dealings with the rest of the crew.

"Ah, yes. Her roommate made a comment to me about it the other day. Everyone gets along well for the most part. And not to worry, you'll have your own quarters, given your role." He motioned towards the door and made his way forward to lead her back to the runabout. No one attempted to block their path or otherwise and making it out into the hallway was uneventful. "I'm docked just down the way here."

"Lead the way, Captain," Rhiana replied and moved to follow him. "I have your back."

He continued and made his way to the airlock, entering his access code, the doors sliding open, along with the door to the runabout. As he walked in, the lights powered on and he took the pilot seat on the left, entering another code to power up the rest of the ship. "Take a seat where you like, we'll get out of here in a moment." He requested docking clearance and was granted it as the doors closed and they felt the umbilical detach.

Rhiana left her bag next to the door before following the captain further into the runabout. At his invitation, she took the seat to the right and watched as he proceded with undocking.

The ship eased forward and swung around. The Captain hit full impulse and quickly brought the Dutchman into view. "There she is..."

Indeed, there she was. A compartively small vessel with a somewhat unusual front. She looked sturdy and fast, though. And a smaller ship was likely exactly the right choice for the kind of missions or 'jobs' this crew would be involved in. Rhiana glanced sideways at Sykes appeared to expect some kind of comment from her. "She looks perfect."

He chuckled "Thanks, she's had a lot of work done the last few weeks, definitely still needs some fine tuning but you'll be happy to know weapons and shields are already taken care of and working top notch. Plus a new computer core should help with targeting and systems management for you. Our engineering team has certainly been busy."

It didn't take long for them to reach the front of the saucer section, an automated docking approval coming in. Zedd approached the open bay and just before reaching the forcefield, completed a one eighty degree spin of the craft to back in in. Automated guidance systems took over before gently lowering down into the grey shuttle bay. Zedd began the power down sequence and opened the portside door. "Home sweet home."

Rhiana nodded once as she rose from her chair. It took only seconds for her to cross the small space to where she had left her bag. A few more seconds to pick it up and set foot into what looked very much like a Starfleet ship. Or rather, a former Starfleet ship. This was going to be an interesting new chapter of her life.
