The door to her new quarters slid close behind her and Rhiana t'Fveirrolh let out a sigh of relief. The first step was done: for the time being, she had a place to stay. One that did not involve leering Ferengis and constant suggestions that she should behave like a proper female and not wear clothes. Rhiana shuddered at that memory. No, she would be better off aboard the Dutchman.
Setting her full and heavy seasack down near the door, Rhiana began to take in the quarters and was very pleasantly surprised. She came from a lifetime of dormitories, shared quarters and cramped, often less than clean accomodations. The quarters aboard the Dutchman were the largest, most luxurious she had ever seen in her life.
"An actual bedchamber!" she muttered in surprise when she stepped through the archway into the sleeping area. The bathroom left her speechless. It was comparatively vast and had all the amenities she could ever want. But her standards were very low. She could not remember ever having had access to a private bathroom.
Slowly, she returned to the living area. There were empty shelves waiting for a personal touch. Those would be difficult to fill. Picking up her bag again, Rhiana carried it into her bedroom, opened it and dumped its contents onto the large bed. It ended up being a surprisingly big pile.
Rhiana stared at all of her wordly possessions for a few seconds, she decided to begin with the most obvious: putting the clothes away. Not that there were all that many. Clothes cost credits or latinum and while she had had no choice than to get civilian garments when she deserted, she could not afford to get much. Her wardrobe had grown somewhat during her time on Ferenginar, when she had finally managed to earn enough to have some disposable income. But she had preferred to save as much as she could. Civilian life was vastly different from the safety and predictability of life as a Galae officer. And it was not as if she could ever go home again if life as a civilian became impossible. The Empire did not look kindly upon deserters.
Last, she picked up a large, carefully cloth-wrapped bundle from the pile and, unopened, placed it onto the topshelf in her wardrobe.
Toiletries were put into the bathroom. The idea of being able to take long, undisturbed sonic showers here made the Romulan smile.
She did not have many truly personel effects. Among them was a personal datapadd that she had received from her parents; a couple of holo-images; a small stuffed thrai that she had had for as long as she could remember. She pondered for a few moments, then decided to keep them in her bedchamber. These items were too private to be exposed to the semi-public eye. She would find other objects of decoration eventually. For now, this would do.
After having put everything away and a look into the mirror to make certain that she was presentable, Rhiana left her quarters to introduce herself to some of the crew, get to know the ship and learn more about the upcoming mission. If it was truly as imminent as the captain had said, she had her work cut out for her if she wanted to show that she was worth her share.
