The Nebula - Part 1
Zedd had been in the ready room for the better part of an hour going over the ship's operational status on the console when the door chimed. He had the maintenance bot logs pulled up on one side of the display and the crew roster on the other and had been doing the particular kind of thinking that did not require looking at either of them directly, the kind where the information was already in his head and he was just letting it arrange itself into something useful.

"Come in," he said.

Lindsy came through the door with her PADD and the particular quality of focused attention she carried when she had worked something out and was ready to present it. She had changed out of whatever she had been wearing earlier and her hair was in the practical knot which meant she had been in the alcove long enough that keeping it down had stopped being worth the effort.

She did not sit down immediately. She stood on the other side of the desk and turned her PADD toward him so he could see the display.

"I need to show you something," she said.

He leaned back in his chair and looked at the display and then at her. "The tokens."

"Token three specifically," she said. "And what I found when I started pulling the surrounding data." She set the PADD on the desk between them and pulled up the layered chart display she had been working with in the alcove. "Sit with this for a second before I walk you through it."

Zedd looked at the display. The layered charts, the gap clusters, the triangulation data she had built from the heading and timestamp information on the token. He did not say anything for a moment and she did not fill the silence which was one of the things he had come to appreciate about her. She let information land before she started explaining it.

"Let’s get the new XO in here before we go over everything. Let’s move over to the couches and take a seat." he said. The pair moved over, each sitting on opposite couches as Zedd simply called out “Tiraa, please report to my ready room.”

“I will be there in just a moment.” Tiraa’s silken voice replied to his polite summon. Roughly two minutes later, she walked through the door. She smiled warmly but not overwhelmingly, her eyes finding Zedd first then immediately moving over toward Lindsy. She could feel by the energy in the air that she had been called because there was news. This woman was Lindsy Vaelor, Tiraa knew, and apparently she worked quickly. “Good afternoon. I’m Tiraa Shai.”

Lindsy stepped over towards the XO to meet her. “Lindsy Vaelor, Astrometrics and interim helmsman. I hope your day is going well so far. I was just telling the Captain that I have found the best opportunity for us to go and investigate a potential derelict craft, but there are a few items of concern.” She handed her PADD to the other woman and motioned over towards the couches where Zedd sat. “If you don’t mind, I’ll give you both a rundown on what I have been able to determine so far.” She made note of Tiraa and how she dressed her green Orion skin, but also her polite introduction and her presence. It would be nice to have someone cover administration along with the Captain and hopefully get the ship ready shortly. Having worked with several other species and types of people, Tiraa and her presumed background didn’t fluster Lindsy at all.

“Wonderful news.” Tiraa took the PADD and gave it a quick glance while she took the few steps over to the couch. She sat down on the same one as Zedd, but at the opposite end, and crossed one long leg over the other in a natural, fluid motion. “When you’re ready then, Miss Vaelor.”

Lindsy sat on the opposite couch and gave a nod before beginning “So, I scrubbed all 7 tokens I purchased, the majority were garbage or the data wasn’t enough to either triangulate or be worth our time. Alot of junk piles. However one in particular stood out. The readings from multiple ships that passed by were able to at least pick up something that appears to be quite large, probably the only reason they were able to pick it up on sensors, because it’s on the edge of the Gataro system. It’s a large nebula full of different gasses and materials to mine. However the station that was active in those operations shut down a couple of years ago, so now one has paid much attention to the area since aside from scavengers, hence the token. They likely didn’t want to find out what was on the other end.”
