The Nebula - Part 3
Lindsy spoke up “Likely the navigational issues. I’ve seen alot of ships and captains decide it’s not worth the time for certain routes and ignore them. Plus it could be a number of other factors. They had time sensitive cargo, ship systems that were too old to handle the nebula, any number of things. It’s actually pretty common to have things tagged and information sold for others to potentially look into, for salvage. For all we know it’s already been hit up and stripped, but we won’t know until we look. Presuming there is a ship there. The data I was able to gather gives it a high likelihood.” Depending on the crew and ship, Lindsy had done a number of salvage ops like this before.

A soft sigh that bordered on disappointment escaped Tiraa’s lips and she lowered the PADD down to her thigh. It was a surface answer; she had hoped for more, really. Instead of saying anything in response to the shallow explanation as to why people might not risk going after a potential massive latinum mine, she merely gave a gesture with her hand. “If this is where you want to go, then this is where we will go.”

Zedd looked over at Lindsy “Thank you, if there’s nothing else, I’ll let you get back to your work.”

Lindsy stood up and gave a nod to each “Tiraa, Zedd” before making her way out of the room.

The Captain waited until the doors closed and locked eyes with Tiraa “I get the feeling you're not satisfied with things, that sigh didn’t give much confidence. What’s on your mind?”

“I think it is incredibly naive to think that no one around here has gone after something this large because of ‘navigational issues’. Lindsy isn’t the only person around here who is capable - or at the very least would believe themselves to be capable - of doing exactly what she has done with planning a route. If that didn’t work and they died, we’d also have a trail of bodies and records for that. Instead, they simply aren’t going.” Tiraa rolled her shoulders and finally looked at Zedd with those black eyes. “Whoever she bought this information from certainly isn’t the only one with it either, so it isn’t like we are the first to know.”

“I agree,” Zedd replied. “The question is though how long are we going to take to ask around if anyone knows anything more? And say someone does and it’s worth something or they know how to get there without issue, they’re not going to share it with competition. Whether it be that there is something there to actually get, or say there’s some sort of danger, they still aren't going to tell us in the hopes we meet an unfortunate fate to eliminate said competition. So the way it seems to me is either we go and look, or we don’t and we go find something else. It’s a roll of the dice no matter what, it would seem to me.”

“It is, but I would rather go into this with proper caution and steps taken to assure we are prepared for whatever it could be that has kept people away. Perhaps it is just navigational issues, but you and I both doubt that. We have a plan to get in there, but is there a plan to get out quickly if we find something untoward waiting for us at the end of the trail?” She shifted her legs so both of her feet were on the floor.

“We can plan escape routes, evasive maneuvers, and potentially have a craft scout ahead for us. Aside from being in a combat ready status just in case, I’m not sure there’s much more else one ship can do to be ready.” While he knew flying by the seat of their pants wasn’t a preferred method, it seemed to be something the XO may have to start getting used to at times. “We have to trust the ship and everyone we’ve hired so far, it’s all part of the gambit being out here and doing this type of work.”

“That is all I’m asking to be done.” Her eyes narrowed just slightly. “Some actual planning in full, not just slipping in there like some moronic Ferengi caught on a glint of latinum without any thought besides ‘oo, shiny’.”

Zedd resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the comment “Understandable, she was bringing what she was able to decipher to give us a best likely option. Once there’s an agreement to go through with it, then we go ahead and put the resources into the mitigation planning and whatnot. Before we go we’ll make sure and have possible contentions planned for within our capabilities. And you and I will review it and make sure we’re good with the plan before we even point the ship in the direction of the nebula.”
